What Are Fibroids?
The uterine fibroid, which is also known as myomas or fibromyomas is a non-cancerous muscular tumour that starts growing from the muscle layers of the uterus. Fibroids are the growth of smooth muscle and fibrous tissue which is also called Uterine Fibroma in the singular. Fibroids may differ in size, from small size bean to large melon.

- Submucosal fibroids: – Submucosal fibroids grow in the muscle beneath the lining of the uterus wall. These fibroids lump into the uterine cavity and may be pedunculated.
- Cervical fibroids: – Cervical fibroids grow generally in the neck of the womb which is also known as the cervix.
What Are The Causes Of Uterine Fibroids?
The main causes of uterine fibroids are still unknown. These fibroids originate as the single muscle cell in the uterus which later takes the form of fibroid tumour cell and start growing and multiplying into several tumours. Some claimed that it happens due to heredity problems, but no such evidence is proved yet. In another assumption, it is said that the muscle cells in the uterus are inborn programmed to develop into the fibroid, in some cases, maybe after few years of puberty or start of menstrual periods where the ovaries start producing more hormones. The rise in hormone level causes the growth of fibroids.
